Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 salmon fillets 6 oz each; skin on or off
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
Optional Flavor Boosters
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Fresh parsley or dill chopped

Equipment

  • Large skillet or baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or foil (for baking)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Tongs or spatula

Method

Prepare the Salmon:
  1. Pat salmon dry thoroughly. Season both sides with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Let rest 5 minutes for better seasoning absorption.
Choose Your Cooking Method:
  1. Pan-Seared: Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat until hot.
  2. Baked: Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C) and line a baking sheet.
Cook the Salmon:
  1. Pan-Seared: Place salmon skin-side down; cook 4–5 minutes undisturbed. Flip and cook 2–3 minutes more.
  2. Baked: Bake for 12–15 minutes until opaque and flaky.
Add Garlic & Finish:
  1. During the last minute, add minced garlic and optional butter, lemon juice, or glaze (honey-Dijon). Spoon over salmon briefly—do not burn garlic.
Rest & Serve:
  1. Rest 2–3 minutes. Garnish with herbs or lemon zest and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Avoid overcooking; salmon should flake easily but remain moist.
  • Cooking skin-side down first protects the flesh and crisps the skin.
  • Add lemon at the end for brighter flavor.
  • Frozen salmon works if fully thawed and dried.
  • Reheat gently to prevent dryness.
