Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes or tomato puree
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sugar optional, to balance acidity
  • Optional: fresh basil for garnish

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
  5. Season with basil, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar if using.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
